About Jim's Repair Service
Heating, cooling and home repairs, both sides of the river. Here is what we work on, how a job runs and where we go.

What we work on
We repair, replace and maintain heating and cooling systems: gas furnaces, hot-water and steam boilers, radiators, central air, heat pumps and ductless units. Around that core we handle the work that tends to sit beside it, like water heaters, ductwork, dryer vents, exhaust fans, chimney liners and gas lines, and the drywall patch after a new line goes through a wall. For businesses we work on rooftop units, walk-in coolers and boilers. The full list is on our services page.
How a job runs, from the call to the cleanup
Every job starts on the phone. A person answers at any hour, asks what the system is doing and whether anyone at home is at risk, and books the visit. On site, the tech tests before replacing anything: ignition, pressures and temperatures, airflow, drains, wiring and venting. You hear what failed and what fixing it involves, and nothing gets replaced until you say go.
When the work is done, the system runs through a full cycle, gas equipment is checked for safe venting, and the space is left the way we found it. If replacement makes more sense than repair, we explain why and price both so you can compare.
Where we work
We are based in West Deptford, NJ, in Gloucester County, just across the Delaware River from South Philadelphia. Philadelphia is our main area, especially the south and southwest neighborhoods closest to the Walt Whitman Bridge, along with Delaware and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania and Gloucester, Camden and Burlington counties in New Jersey. See everywhere we work.
Older houses are the normal case here
A lot of our work is in houses older than the equipment in them: steam mains in stone basements, radiators that have outlived several boilers, ductwork added decades after the walls went up, and flat roofs over hot top floors. We plan repairs around what is already there instead of treating every house like new construction.
Who writes our guides
Our HVAC resources are written by Lois Cavanaugh, our HVAC guides editor. They answer the questions we hear most on calls, in plain language, and say clearly when a job belongs to a technician.
